- Unique Experience Award 2022
Now in the fifth generation of ownership by the Cunliffe family, the Gilpin comprises two hotels run by one close-knit team. Set a mile apart in the mountains of the Lake District, guests can choose between a chilled modern hotel and the country house charm of the Lake House, surrounded by 100 acres of grounds.
With “no weddings, conferences or children under seven”, the Gilpin promises a relaxed unhurried break in which you’re looked after by people who prize “love and laughter” above all and are dedicated to making sure you’re properly pampered.
All 28 rooms at the main hotel have stunning Lakeland views, and most of them open directly onto beautiful gardens grazed by llamas and alpacas. Six Garden Suites have their own cedarwood hot tubs, the five Spa Lodges en-suite steam rooms and sauna and the three Spa Suites private lounge and dining areas, circular stone baths, infrared lounge beds, automated massage chairs and bedrooms that ‘float’ over the pond in sight of the mountains.
You’ll be surrounded by 21 acres of grounds glittering with streams and fish-stocked ponds that can be explored via a network of paths.
While at Gilpin Lake House with its sweeping staircase, floor-to-ceiling windows and log fire you can be among just a dozen guests enjoying your own private lake with boathouse, hot tubs, saunas and swimming pool. And in the evening chauffeurs will ferry you to the main hotel for dinner at one of the two restaurants.
Both the Michelin-starred HRiSHi Gilpin Spice and the laid-back tapas-style Gilpin Spice base their menus on Cumbria’s history as a centre for the spice trade, combining local produce with exotic ingredients to create some amazing flavours and textures. The new restaurant Lake House and Grill has also just opened.
Spa treatment rooms are open to guests at both hotels, staffed by the Gilpin’s own expert therapists.
With so much on offer for guests, it’s no wonder it won the Unique Experience Award 2022.
