The Retreat at Elcot Park

Newbury

The perfect base for an idyllic escape to the English countryside with stunning views of the Wessex Downs

Appealing to both tourists and business clients it is the perfect blend of quirky British sensibility and elegant authentic luxury.

The Georgian country house hotel and spa, which was once home to Percy Shelley’s mother, is situated within sixteen acres of stunning grounds.  Guests that want that sense of historic adventure can even stay in a suite named after the romantic poet.

Since opening in June 2022, The Retreat Elcot Park has already received a raft of high-profile awards. The Good Hotel Guide unveiled it as the 'best country hotel' for its Cesar winners for 2024 while it has also been named as Britain's Best Hotel by The Times and the Sunday Times topping their list of the Top 100 Places to Stay in the UK.

Guests are welcomed with a complimentary glass of wine on arrival, with the team giving a quick tour of the hotel before escorting them to the warm and inviting bedrooms. From the moment guests arrive they can also enjoy The Signet Spa with hydrotherapy pools, treatment rooms, steam, sauna, gym, spin studio, and heated outdoor pool.

The luxurious bedrooms range from ‘classics’ with a walk-in or over-bath shower, to suites, while some are even dog-friendly.

You can also eat with your pooch in the Atlas Room lounge.  The Atlas Room is The Retreat's beautiful lounge, and takes you back to the golden age of travel and leisure, with comfy sofas, board games and vintage travel-inspired art

Dogs are also welcome in the breathtaking Orangery, where afternoon tea is served.

There are two stunning restaurants for those looking for that gastronomic experience.

The Pan-Asian restaurant Yu is the perfect space to switch off and indulge in a relaxed fine-dining experience. It serves the ‘freshest sushi and sashimi’ in an environment of woven fans, bamboo-style framed mirrors and warm lighting.

The relaxed brasserie, 1772, named after the year the original house was built is the place to enjoy good times and exceptional contemporary food. It is open to residents and non-residents for lunch and dinner.
